It has been a busy few weeks and I have tried to limit my emails so here is a full list.
1. The Grand Canyon High Adventure Trip
The trip, scheduled for the summer of 2016, has 4 openings if you are interested. Please email Bob Vorwald atBvorwald@wgntv.com.
2. High Adventure Program Meeting - DATE CHANGE
Troop 20 is known for the high quality and exciting high adventure trips that our Scouts and Parents take each year. From scuba diving in the BVI to the Appalachian Trail to hiking in the Alps, high adventure is a cornerstone of our Troop Scouting experience.
Our 2016 kickoff meeting will take place at: WINNETKA PARK DISTRICT COMMUNITY ROOM (the one in the cul-de-sac by the Skokie Playfields).
NEW DATE: OCTOBER 11, 2015
TIME: 7 to 9 PM.
1. Purpose of High Adventure
2. Role of the High Adventure Chairs (Bob Vorwald, Charley Snell) including budgeting
3. Status of 2015 Trips
4. Planning for 2016 and beyond.
This is an optional meeting. But if you are interested in high adventure for 2016 and beyond, please consider attending to understand the process that the Troop enters to ensure a fun & safe event for the Scouts/Parents.
3. Upcoming Court of Honor
As a reminder, we have an upcoming Court of Honor on Tuesday, October 6th at the Greely School and all members of the Troop are encouraged to attend and support their fellow scouts.
4. Upcoming Camping Trip on October 9-11th.
All Camping permission slips need to be turned in by Sept 29 Troop meeting (aka next Tuesday) to Scott Foster (email@example.com).
5. Christmas Tree Lot
A. The Tree lot is fast approaching. Every year we hire a college aged boy to help work the Tree Lot during the school hours. If you know of anyone that might be interested in this, please contact Tom Fritts atTfritts@ameritech.net.
B. Seniors - If you have not gotten back to Mr. Fritts about the new hat design - do so this weekend. We will need hats in which to sell trees.
C. I need an adult volunteer to step up and take over running the Christmas Tree Lot from Brian Scullion who will be retiring as Tree Lot Chair after this years' sales. This is a great once a year chance to help the Troop and earns you a pass from me on asking for any other help. Please contact me if you might have any interest. I will convince you why it is a great job beyond getting to wear terrific hats.
6. Bike Winnetka
Troop 20 did an excellent job staffing all of the intersections and I thank all of the volunteers. The Park District was so pleased that they sent over a huge plate of cookies as thank you. Remember to see me at the next meeting to sign your book for service hours.
7. Pumpkinfest as a volunteer opportunity
Winnetka Public School Nursery's Annual Pumpkinfest - Saturday, October 3rd
On Saturday, October 3rd, WPSN is hosting their annual Pumpkinfest at the Skokie School from 10am - 2pm. They are looking for volunteers to man the activity stations. You can view the volunteer slots and sign up via this link. If you have any questions, you can contact WPSN volunteer Sally Anderson: firstname.lastname@example.org.
8. In other news - I will commend the Stealth and Moose patrols for a well played brutal game of Dodgeball last Tuesday night. The Stealth patrol was good - but not quite good enough. I will also commend the general level of uniform, presentation, and punctuality that we have seen this year in all scouts. Thank you. It is much easier to stick to a schedule when people are on time.
Thank you, have a good weekend, and we will see everyone on Tuesday night Sept 29th at North Shore Country Day School at 7:45 - 9:00 PM.
