Before we move out of summer, I want to commend all of the Scouts who went to Makajawan and on High Adventure Trips. We had a great summer with 41 scouts attending camp, 126 completed Merit Badges, 16 TrailBlazer Program participants, 5 inductees into the Order of the Arrow, a side trip to the Osh Kosh Air Show, and some very good leadership from our senior scouts. I want to thank the 26 parents and grandparents who spent part of their summer helping make Makajawan a great success. I especially want to thank Skip Shade for his masterful organization and multiple spreadsheets that kept us all straight.
Many Troops would consider that a great and busy summer but in addition to that Camp success, we fielded three separate High Adventure trips that traveled the world and let the senior Scouts practice more advanced leadership skills. We sent a crew of 7 (5 Scouts and 2 adults) to Philmont Ranch in the Southwest, another crew of 11 (8 scouts and 3 dads) canoed down the Smith River in Montana and visited Yellowstone, and the third crew of 12 (8 scouts and 3 dads) hiked in the Bavarian Alps. All of the trips went very well and everyone is back safely. Each of the trips will send out a report on their activities as we get back up to speed.
I want to remind people to check the Troop Schedule posted on the website (www.WT20@weebly.com) for many of the activities (weekend campouts, Troop Committee meetings, Boards of Review and Courts of Honor etc). While things always change, the schedule for the year is posted and should remain fairly stable. As a reminder, we will be meeting for a picnic from 7:00-9:00 PM on Thursday August 13 at Crow Island. Seniors will be meeting Sunday, August 16 at 4:00 – 6:00 PM
at the Park District Community Room at AC Nielsen. Our First Troop meeting will be onTuesday Sept. 1 at 7:45 PM. Our first campout will be on Friday Sept 11, 2015 and should include a roaring beach bonfire as well as great water based activities and one or two dunes. We have additional Eagle volunteer activities such as roadside clean ups and car washes so keep tuned.
I look forward to seeing you on Thursday night and if you have not already done it, please RSVP to Noah at email@example.com for the picnic.
Thanks and I hope you are well and have had a great summer.
