We are starting to get into gear for our first meeting and first Campout.
Our First meeting will be Tuesday Sept 1 at 7:15 PM - 8:30 PM at Indian Hill Park. I am sorry for both the location switch and the time change but North Shore Country Day and the Congregational Church are both booked that night. We are meeting slightly earlier than normal to account for dusk. Those that have tight schedules due to the time change - please come when you can. We will set up the Patrols, have elections, announce the JASM and SPLs, talk through what is going on, and hand out Troop tents. We will be back at North Shore Country Day at 7:45 PM on Sept 8.
Any Scouts needing uniforms should either go to the Scout Store or investigate the Uniform Exchange (contact Mrs. Fox (email@example.com)). As a reminder, all High School Scouts of Star Rank or higher will need to have their green shirts.
The new parent meeting is scheduled for 6:00 PM on August 30 @ 730 Walden Road. Kids are welcome and the pool will be warm. If you have not RSVP'ed, please respond to me at ScoutmasterWinnetkaTroop20@gmail.com
I sent the Sleeping Bear Dunes Campout information yesterday. No early September weekend is perfect as everyone and every group is getting up and going. I know that we have many seniors doing college visits, we have 6th Grade Social Dance, and some game conflicts. As we have two more regular campouts scheduled for Oct and Nov, we thought we would try for something really different, beautiful, and fun, even if it was a bit farther away and we would have to work harder to accommodate getting there and back. Scott Foster is working with the ASMs to adjustSaturday activities to allow those that come on Sat morning to have a great weekend. Please reach out to your ASMs or Mr. Foster (firstname.lastname@example.org) to work out any conflicts.
We also have many partial Merit Badges that can be completed. Ma-ka-ja-wan Partial Merit Badge are put up online at the troop website. Scouts should also print a copy for their own records so they know what they have done and what they have left to do. When a scout wants to finish a partial from camp, he needs to get a blue card from me and bring proof of what he has already completed (camp record) to his first meeting with the counselor. Scouts should not undertake any merit badge or complete any merit badge unless under the supervision of an approved counselor. There is time to finish badges up before the Board of Review. Any questions - please ask Mrs. Erst (Julie@erst.org)
We have had two leadership meetings with the High School scouts and I want to convey to the broader Troop how impressive a group of Scouts we have in the Troop. We have editors of the school newspapers, varsity athletes, top students, heads of clubs, and just very involved capable and competent boys.
I am attaching our last High Adventure report for the 2015 season which was just emailed to me last night. I went on this trip personally and can attest that it was not always easy but I think that the Trip Scribe's (Brendan Bahan) comment at the end is what makes High Adventure worthwhile.
Have a good weekend.
